There really isn't a free market.

Moving isn't all that easy, especially now with all the inflation. I'd love to sell my large house on a large lot in an expensive town to buy a smaller, newer home here while letting some rich person build a $8M McMansion on the lot... but most of us are locked in by the high tax rates. We'd lose a ton of money to taxes that means we can buy smaller homes in cheaper neighborhoods on smaller lots just to break even. So, many here are "stuck in our homes." Few have sympathy as we've done great on paper, but who wants to give the government over $1M just to move caused by inflation stupid government policies created? I think that goes for anyone working in a company town too... it is hard to pack up kids and leave a company town for another unless you get a huge raise.

BTW, all these geezers staying in homes after their kids are long gone contributes to the housing crisis. The whole idea that the government can PROFIT from inflation on a personal residence is absurd, but try and explain that to a liberal who thinks everyone else doesn't pay enough in taxes already.

What they are asking for is absurd so hopefully it is just a Trump tactic of starting high and working lower... but who knows.
