Janice, David, and All,

If any of you believe you have had electrodes implanted in your your brains, either by a sinister government agency or by space aliens, I think you should know that in time the connectors become corroded and thus must be cleaned and degaused and demagnetized. After a period of time, these electrodes no longer function reliably at all and must be replaced.

Be comforted, however, that this is a simple, relatively painless procedure which can be performed in your local emergency room, or so I've been told. I cannot give precise MTBF figures because my experience has been that the electrodes of which I speak are quite variable in quality and in the methods used for their initial insertion.
