Take FDR who let the not a surprise attack take place against Pearl Harbor, sacrificing many lives and our national pride in order to change America's isolationist view on that "eauopean conflict" and get us into WWII.

It's a theory, and an interesting one, but there's no conclusive proof. Recent scholarship tends to take a rather doubtful view of it. Certainly there was enough information circulating at the time: if anyone had put it together properly plans for the Pearl Harbor attack could have been anticipated. But unfortunately there was poor coordination between the Brits and the Americans, and to make matters worse it seems that our Thread Friend J. Edgar withheld crucial data because he felt he'd been snubbed by Wild Bill Donohue and Donohue's English friends. I don't think FDR "allowed" it to happen: the threat, if provable, would have been quite enough to mobilize Americans against the Axis powers.
