Per city's orders, I've cut down several 80' poplar trees. Most of the wood is gone, but I saved some pieces for arts and craft. The wood has a nice grain and a very nice thick bark that is over an inch.

I'm looking for suggestions on what to do with it. One easy choice is to make serving trays out of them (think a nice cheese and fruit tray). But I don't know how to treat the wood to be food safe. Maybe I should oven dry it and then treat it with food safe oil? Or some resin?

I also don't know if I should soak it in water first. Some parts are dead dry wood and others are still wet. So if I need to soak it, is it the dry or the wet wood that needs to be soaked?

Also, I really want to preserve the bark. And I don't know if soaking or oven will separate the bark or what kind of coating will keep it safe. Should I use some glue?

All help is appreciated.
