Deutsche Bank starts coverage on KLA Corp., Applied Materials, Lam Research

By: Chris Ciaccia, SA News Editor

Deutsche Bank initiated coverage on the semiconductor equipment sector on Thursday, putting a Buy rating on KLA Corp. (NASDAQ:KLAC) and Hold ratings on Applied Materials (NASDAQ:AMAT) and Lam Research (NASDAQ:LRCX).

KLA Corp. is seen as an "early-cycle beneficiary" of technology advances at the leading edge of semiconductors, the investment firm said. And with large changes to architecture coming over the next 12 to 24 months, KLA Corp. has a "unique" opportunity to outperform its peers on a fundamental basis.

Deutsche Bank also has a $800 price target on KLA Corp.

For Applied Materials, the investment firm said while it's encouraged by its diversified business, broad product portfolio and exposure to cutting edge technologies, its perceived outsized exposure is a concern.

Deutsche Bank also has a $225 price target on Applied Materials.
For Lam Research, the company should benefit as the dynamic random access memory market shows signs of life. However, shares are already pricing in a "significant degree" of earnings upside, Deutsche Bank said.
