Firefox 126 includes security patches for Mozilla’s open-source, privacy-enhancing alternative to proprietary Apple Safari and Google Chrome web browsers, as well as other updates, including:
- The Copy Without Site Tracking option can now remove parameters from nested URLs.
- Enabled AV1 hardware decode acceleration on macOS for M3 Macs.
- Firefox now supports Content-encoding: zstd (zstandard compression)
- Telemetry was added to create an aggregate count of searches by category to broadly inform search feature development.
- The URL Paste Suggestion feature added in Fx125 was temporarily disabled while the team investigates a potential performance issue
Firefox 126 is a free download for macOS 10.15 Catalina and later, as well as Linux and Windows, with native code for both Intel and M1/M2/M3 Macs.
Firefox 115.11.0 ESR, which still supports macOS 10.12 Sierra and later, has the latest security patches for Mozilla’s most stable Extended Support Release (ESR) family (see downloads).
A Firefox FTP server includes all the various versions for downloading.
Firefox for Enterprise is a version that lets people set up policies (e.g. proxy, restrict features) with Group Policy on Windows and a JSON file on Mac and Linux.
Firefox Developer Edition is a version with “all the latest developer tools in beta, plus experimental features … and a separate profile and path so you can easily run it alongside Release or Beta Firefox”, as well as “preferences tailored for web developers.”
Firefox for iOS 126 is a free mobile version, based on Apple’s Safari WebKit platform, for iOS/iPadOS 15 and later with automatic search suggestions, a private browsing mode, tracking protection, and Siri Shortcut support. Firefox for Android is also available.

ZDR's take: If you don't like using Safari or wish to have an alternative browser on hand, I highly recommend using Firefox over Google's Chrome. I uninstalled Chrome years ago and never looked back.
Firefox ESR is a great alternative to regular Firefox as well, as it has far less frequent UI changes and its updates focus on fixing security issues only. It's what I use here on SI. |
