You are basically repeating what I said.
The promise of democracy is that as it matures, we get increasingly better candidates. However, there are systemic flaws in the US system that have put the gears in reverse or at least have prevented progress. This needs to stop.

I don't want to get into US is dying like Rome and that kind of BS. But the idea of the government of the people by the people and for the people is now too quaint. I think that there are politicians who actually do want to do the right thing. But they are operating within a corrupt and broken system and cannot do good.

So like I said, when we criminalize buying politicians and start demanding that they have skin in the game, then we'll have better choices. But I am not holding my breath for that. I doubt that even my children will see such a day.
