Duncan,

It'll be interesting to see what happens in those elections. Contrary to the image which seems so popular to the masses, California is, by and large, a politically conservative state.

We've put Republicans in the Governor's Mansion more often than not, with the notable exception of the Brown Dynasty. <vbg> Other highly placed office holders are Republicans, which makes life pleasant for Governor Pete Wilson. One of Governor Pete Wilson's conundrums has been to avoid being confused with the San Francisco news anchor of the same name. This has not been easy.

A while back, the San Francisco Examiner, SF's ultra-conservative paper (yes, Virginia, we do have such in SF) printed a picture of newsman Pete Wilson's picture on its front page, identifying him as Governor Pete Wilson. No one outside of The San Francisco Bay Area thought too much about it. Everyone else seemed to think it quite a normal thing for California that its Governor also anchored the 6:00 p.m. news in for San Francisco's NBC affiliate.
