NIAID's chief scientist, Peter Jahrling, described Fauci's gain of function research as "looking for a gas leak with a lighted match." Fauci silenced Jahrling. Immediately after the WaPo op-ed appeared, Fauci told Jahrling he was not permitted to speak with journalists without prior authorization, and would be fired on the spot if he ever did so again. Jahrling had left the US Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) and joined NIAID just before WaPo op-ed appeared. He was shocked to learn he had more freedom when working for the Army's USAMRIID than for Fauci's NIAID, and was regretting the move. x.com Tom
