This is indeed embarrassing. All I can say is that I tend to confuse Matt Fong with March Fong Eu. What's equally embarrassing is that if you click on my SI profile page, you will find a link to SFgate, the Chronicle Publishing Company, which publishes the SF Examiner and SF Chronicle.

Your comments re the Kennedys planning to dump LBJ in 1964 is right on target. William Manchester's book, "Death of a President," makes frequent mention of the Kennedy family's dislike for LBJ. LBJ, in turn, brooked no love for the Kennedys. Their relationship was a political marriage of convenience and only for as long as necessary.
A delightfully witty and right-on-target book, although fiction, is Robert Mayer's "I, JFK." Highly recommended!
Duncan, re your statement that the best politicians having been previously successful at something other than politics, I have to ask, because I really am not clear on this, but . . . wasn't Jimmy Carter a successful businessman and scientist prior to his entry into politics? I realize also that in voting Carter into the Presidency, the US of A was giving the Watergate scandal, and everyone perceived to be involved, one final slap in the face. Gerald Ford's pardoning Richard Nixon, rightly or wrongly probably cost him that election.
