The president's powers always seems to be overrated by much of the electorate. He has to deal with congress.. your founding fathers did this on purpose.. to check his power. In our parliamentary system when NOT in a minority position as Trudeau is .. the prime minister calls the shots.. if an MP does not tow the line he is kicked out of caucus to join another party or sit as an independent. Usually your career is over then. Our PM has a lot of power when in majority position *which is the normal state of affairs*. Right now Trudeau just the head MP) is as Trump is.. at the mercy of the house.. (especially the even more left wing NDP under Jagmeet Singh) ..Trump is trying to exert control over his caucus.. THAT is what is the crux of this situation.. so far Trump has lost the first skirmish.. only so much he can do by executive order.. for good reason which is obvious.. On that front though he does have more power than our PM through executive order.. Our PM is NOT the executive as your president is.. in our case executive branch is th English monarch through the governor General.. LARGELY BUT NOT completely a figure head.. We don't give a rat's butt about the monarch but defying the process of the governor General passes us off. Governments fall up here if that happens. Our countries have different ways of preventing dictatorships.. Trump is looking for the same solidarity of caucus that a Canadian prime minister enjoys when in majority.. In both our countries the popular vote shows ½the country is often unhappy with who is in charge.. in Canada it is even more egregious.. This is actually pretty exciting.. Trump for one thing seems to want cleaner legislation without all the omnibus if ands or buts attached. Trudeau is in the position of being beholden to the NDP to stay in power.. so his legislation has to appease the further left NFP to be passed.. As I said exciting.. Pretty much the Reader's Digest version Leaders often take more heat or get more credit for the economy than is warranted.. there is a business cycle. EDIT.. Kirk.. sorry for that tome ..
