It's not a matter of trust. Its understanding the motives of a country and what they believe is in their self interests. Understanding is not agreeing. But having missiles on its border is not in its self interest. Nor would it be in ours. China is a bigger threat than Russia. That's why Trump moved quickly on Panama as it was getting too close to China. China related companies operate to ports at the Panama Canal.
