Excellent points, aj. But - give them also some credit.

They started out from the days when they suffered mass famines under Mao. Hundreds of millions of people who subsisted on a couple of cups of rice a day - now live under conditions of relative affluence. Their average life expectancy, in fact, is about 2 years longer than hours - a bit over 78 years compared to a little over 76 in the US.

They made a mess, yes - but, the early stages of capitalistic development in Europe - or the US - were also not very pretty. They’ll deal with it. They’ll have no choice.

Technologically, what they do is very impressive. Entire busy ports are ran by AI - and, reportedly, are remarkably efficient. AI runs advanced factories and mines. The latest story just came out - they are starting practical use of Thorium for production of energy - it’s comparable to Uranium, but without a threat of explosion.

Generally, the future promises to be quite fascinating - if we, humans, don’t blow the world up… because we can.
