You probably should read some of the investor presentations to see all the markets they serve. As you point out, it is a small cap stock, or at least on my asset allocation sheets... and they are not as in favor as a handful of popular names leading the markets now.

Their buyout was for both cash and stock as the original Coherent wanted to participate in the success, with the large amount of debt needed to raise the cash, would take some time to repay. A lot of it is convertible so some debt will be reduced with dilution. With huge mergers, selling non-core business to pay down debt rather than buy back shares is a no brainer good management.

Good observation about P/S. That seems a huge discount to NVDA, etc. In fact, I just did a sort of P/B and it is "only" 2.56 while NVDA is 52.85 yet "the women who will seldom admit I'm right" keeps asking me why I don't own NVDA. (I probably own more than she does if you include the funds that have it as a top holding....)
