Dwight,

I am in complete agreement with you. The media do filler stories, such as El Nino, diverting attention from things that matter.

Where we differ is that I believe every Administration, with perhaps the exception of Richard Nixon's, was given such preferential or, at the very least, deferential treatment. Where were the media during the S&L mess during the Reagan and Bush Administrations? Where have the media been when these most recent tensions were mounting in Iraq and the rest of the Middle East? I could go on and on with these types of questions.

Was it you who made the statement to the effect that the media should be the watchdogs of democracy? To me, they have been everything else. I fully understand the media's reasons for their dereliction but do not say these reasons are okay or acceptable.
