Dwight,
I thought it went without saying that I knew you did not design or implement Federal background investigations for security clearances. <vbg>
Yes, I would assume that a comprehensive background check would include, among other things, psychological screenings, comprehensive medical examinations, drug screenings and other laboratory and perhaps x-ray tests, credit checks, and lie-detector tests. In saying this, I am not saying that I approve or disapprove of such invasive scrutiny or that I think it always turns out an accurate portrayal of the examinee. Talking with relatives, friends, and neighbors is also standard operating procedure and obviously not given to objective or impartial profiles.
Again, I have formed no opinions or come to any conclusions as to who did what. Given Moncia's reported stories to date, I find it easy and plausible to write her off as delusional and given to flights of fancy. That these flights of fancy involve the President of the United States in this current media free-for-all is reprehensible, and I am troubled that the Office of the Presidency is being debased over alleged sexual dalliances, even if the intended purpose of all of this is to uncover high crimes and misdemeanors which, I might add, if they exist, should have been brought to the surface and exposed prior to his nomination and election in 1992. As I recall, the biggest news stories at that time seemed to be Clinton's relationship with Gennifer Flowers, his smoking pot but not inhaling, and his maneuvering to avoid the draft, none of which should have precluded his serving as President.
With regard to firearm ownership, I can debate both sides of that issue with equal conviction.
