I got your point. This is especially good " but when they are not the right kind of firefighters, they don't think so (you proved my point)".

I'd like to see prison firefighters, people getting a chance to learn a skill for a job they can do outside of prison, get a fair wage but from that wage I'd like 50% deduction for restitution to the State for the cost of their incarceration and trial then maybe 25% to a fund for restitution to victims. Currently the low wage just assumes this restitution is built in and they are exchanging the ability to learn a skill to show the parole board for an earlier release compared to just serving their time.

As for risk, firefighters have a much higher risk of developing cancers from inhaling fine particles in smoke long after they "retire". The "could" wear an N95 Respirator when near smoke but these are not that popular.
