Stuart Taylor of National Journal wrote a tightly-reasoned essay saying that Starr should go, but not because Starr has done anything wrong, but rather because the Clintons have been successful at smearing him with baseless lies. He says that the people have not examined the case against Starr because if they did, they would find that there is no case. Taylor said that the Clintonistas have proved that "smears work". Taylor says that the Clintons would resist a new IC more than anyone, because they would have to start a new smear campaign against the new IC.
