OFF TOPIC Jack, I had not read any research about guilt or conscience having a genetic component. Is there something recent? I tend to think environment is very important--we emulate the people around us. If they are amoral, or immoral, it is much harder to know right from wrong. You were very right to bring up love--that we want to please the people we have love relationships with. I think it is very difficult for sensitive children to feel love when it is intertwined with stern admonitions and spankings, and have reared my child in a much different way. I finally came to forgive my grandmother, however, when I grew older and realized she was loving me in the way she had been taught was best for my development.
