Christine, It was reported around that time that someone was going to come forward with something of interest to one of the investigations of the Clintons. My own personal opinion is that there is probably nothing here, unless the report that Monica refers to Mahoney on the tapes as well is true, in which case I would be fairly intrigued. But it certainly does look like a hit, doesn't it?
It surely smells, that's for sure. There are some really skilled and talented investigators out there, so hopefully the murderers can be brought to justice eventually. Violent crime investigators is one of the areas where I have no qualms about spending as much money as it takes. IMO, money shouldn't even be an issue there. It follows then that I have no qualms about extremely strict punishment for violent crime. I am a gun owner, yes, and I wish more people would see fit to exercise their right to self-defense. They just found the body of a mother of three in a river here yesterday. In March of 1997 this woman, in a written request for a court restraining order against her ex-husband, said that her ex had broken into her home, and that she feared he would turn violent. I wouldn't want to jump to hasty and perhaps wrong conclusions, but suffice to say that she should have, at the time of the restraining order, got a concealed weapons permit and commenced pistol shooting training. She could well be alive now if she had. Ditto for Nicole Browne S.
In re San Fran. During Mayor Agnos' administration, there was something called Camp Agnos in the plaza by city hall, with hundred of permanent campers.
That must have been a nice sight for the city employees to be greeted by as they arrived to work each day. Were the campers trying to be annoying, or did the city rather that they were there, as opposed to in a more secluded spot where crime could flourish?
As you would expect, there is a liberal political movement to feed them, but a lot of people believe the homeless are being enabled to stay that way....there was an organization called Food Not Bombs which was feeding them[...oh no, I'm laughing again. :)...]Obviously, the problem is very complex. Some of them are able-bodied, and many make somewhere from $20-100 a day panhandling....This is a situation which was caused by such a huge combination of factors....that it is sort of unreasonable to expect a city to solve the problem.
Well bravo, Christine! Back in the year of about 31 A.D., someone once said, "For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good:..".
While I was in Finland (very socialist), I got into a little political discussion with a Finn, and she told me, "We don't have any poor people in Finland". I said, "then who were all those beggars then, at the train station?" She said that they all did indeed have housing and a monthly stipend, but evidently just enjoyed begging. :) Now don't get me wrong Christine, I'm certainly not against govt welfare. It's just that at times, there needs to be common sense. The homeless are virtually everywhere, and I agree it's a "sticky wicket".
If I were homeless, I would definitely go to Seattle.
Christine, Seattle is fun. The "Saturday Market" there on the waterfront is enjoyable. And hey, you can enjoy Seattle even if you aren't homeless! -G-
