How many people have you known, Janice, who have invented another life for themselves, and then attempted to live out that vision while talking serious conversation with you? 22 hours, Janice.
22 hours is NOTHING when it comes to women and telephones. I wonder, too, how much of that time was dedicated to talk of the Big Creep? And if indeed Monica spoke ONLY of that, it'd make me wonder...
Yes, actually I did once know someone--a friend of a friend--who became convinced that her gynecologist was in love with her. Her account of what he supposedly said and what he supposedly did was quite circumstantial. This went on for some time, until the guy became nervous enough that he asked her to find another doctor. She was in my opinion a whacko, but scarcely a multiple personality.
And on a less pathological level: don't you remember the locker-room stories of your own high-school days? I knew guys who made up quite elaborate sexual adventures for themselves, which they recounted straight-faced to their buddies. None of it, of course, was true. |
