Janice, thanks so much for that link. I now know what the technique is. I have enclosed the description for those that may not be familiar: She stressed the importance of using what she calls the Ransberger Pivot: beginning the answer to a question with a reassurance that you share the ultimate goal of the person challenging you (assuming a decent goal can be identified), and proceeding to explain why Freedom would allow that goal to be met better than Government would. This assures most hostile folks that you do, in fact, mean well - and that is much more important to many listeners than the real consequences of policies are. norden1.com And here I was worried that it was some kind of condescending tactic.
