Michael, I've more than noticed that. It drives me bananas. It's very frustrating and difficult to figure out. Here's the only thing I've come up with: We have Congressional elections this fall. The Dems very much would like to regain some seats in the Senate and House. They want the Senate back in particular. Emotions are high. Stakes are high. If Clinton's troubles deepen, who knows what will happen. Historically, for a two-term President, the mid-term Congressional elections are not to the favor of the sitting President's party. So there's that too. Then there's the Presidential elections in fall 2000. Politicians are always thinking ahead, laying the groundwork, trying to shape public opinion. I personally don't think Dems should feel bad at all about Clinton's troubles; I think it just makes Gore look that much better; and he in all probability will be the Dem's candidate for 2000.

I'm not saying these are things that people on this thread are worried about. But as most know, in Washington DC the politicians are ever looking forward; plotting, positioning, etc. And in an election year everything tends to be blown out of proportion by everyone, if they think it suits their purposes.
