Imatron Ships 99th Ad 100th Ultrafast Ct(R) Scanners

Contracts Valued In Excess Of $4 Million

SO. SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Imatron Inc announced today that the Company's 99th and
100th manufactured Ultrafast CT(R) scanners are being shipped to medical facilities in South Korea and the People's
Republic of China. The total value of these two sales contracts exceeds $4 million.

The 100th scanner has been shipped to Jinan, People's Republic of China for installation at Jinan Military District Hospital.
The shipment was made possible with financial and operational support from Jiangxi Zhong Huan Medical Equipment Service
Company, a newly formed private entrepreneurial company in the People's Republic of China. This will be Imatron's fourth
Ultrafast CT(R) scanner in the People's Republic of China.

Imatron's 99th manufactured Ultrafast CT(R) scanner has been shipped to Taegu, South Korea for installation at Kyung
Pook National University Hospital. This is Imatron's second shipment to South Korea within the year. Imatron's exclusive
distributor for South Korea, Bomyung International Co., Ltd. anticipates additional demand for sales in Korea during the
coming months.

According to S. Lewis Meyer, President and Chief Executive Officer of Imatron, "The completion and shipment of our 99th
and 100th scanners represents a significant milestone in Imatron's operating history. These two shipments reflect our strategy
of specifically targeting the Asia Pacific market in order to increase sales of Ultrafast CT(R) scanners in this rapidly growing
and economically important region. By directing our sales efforts toward these densely populated nations with a proportionate
need for advanced diagnostic imaging technologies, we are able to capitalize on the Ultrafast CT(R) scanner's high throughput
and ability to detect a wide variety of disease in the earliest stages of development.

"Our shipment to the Jinan Military District Hospital is a significant breakthrough for both Imatron and Jiangxi Zhong Huan
Medical Equipment Service Company. The People's Republic of China has been a particularly challenging market for Imatron
in the past year due to economic restraints imposed by the Chinese government. The terms and structure of the scanner sale
have been supported by senior officials in China and established as a model for other large scale capital equipment sales."

Imatron Inc. is primarily engaged in designing, manufacturing and marketing high performance computed tomography (CT)
scanners based on the Company's proprietary scanning electron beam technology; Ultrafast CT(R) is a registered trademark
of Imatron. Imatron's Ultrafast CT(R) scanner is now in use at major medical centers around the world, including The Mayo
Clinic, University of Iowa, National Institute of Health, UCLA, University of Illinois, The Royal Brompton Hospital in
London, Tokyo University Hospital, Beijing Hospital, and other major hospital centers around the world. Imatron's Ultrafast
CT(R) is distributed in the United States, Canada, Europe, and India by Siemens Medical Systems. Imatron's HeartScan
Imaging Inc. subsidiary provides Coronary Artery Disease Risk Assessment diagnostic services in a worldwide network of
Company-owned clinics. SOURCE Imatron Inc.
