You have emphasized one part of what he said, but you get a different perspective if you emphasize a different part: "I think what's changed is that the troopers have made ... several public statements that are on their face, I think, incredible and don't have a lot of merit. And so that's given me cause for concern for their original credibility in what they told me." Personally, though, I still find it hard to believe these stories--with all of the effort and money that has gone into discovering Clinton's pecadillos, why haven't they dug up (to take just one example) at least one hotel clerk who will corroborate these tales? If Clinton did do what come of these troopers' and Jones claim, then he is a far greater jerk (to put it politely) than I currently believe. Sorry, but I just don't see the credible evidence for it. Just people repeating it over and over doesn't make it true. It is, of course, always true that I could be in the position of Nixon's pre-tape supporters. But I don't think so.
