Joseph .. Welcome to our gang here! ... I do not see correlation with ORCL
Using the charts available here on SI, I see about 2500% growth in PSFT since inception and less than 1200% for ORCL over same period. PSFT had relatively flat line until near mid-1994, and then has grown exponentially - relative to ORCL - and passed through it's chart line a while ago. ORCL had a downturn in late 1996, and recovered to some degree in 1997, but then got hit again in late 1997. Sure, it has recovered some from the $19 area low to mid-upper 20's. I have a sense there is a wait and see situation happening. ORCL has Q3 report coming tomorrow, I believe (or Friday), so another reading of the tea leaves will occur by analysts. I think ORCL has recovered perhaps because they do have a solid RDBMS product which is recognized as a market leading solution. As I hear it the application packages have and are slipping, but I do understand that some group of magazine readers or writers voted them number 1, blowing away competition. Well, this sounds like a stretch to me, but I digress and don't want to get into that. Anyway, I don't see a correlation. BTW, I believe ORCL was also in 'trouble' last year over foray into small or net PC's.
There have been some criss-crosses back and forth, but BAAN and PSFT stocks have tracked similarly, but again PSFT has outgrown them. I do see more of a correlation / comparison there if you are looking at stock price movement.
OK, now don't everyone attack at once at my casual analysis here <g>. |
