Ran into a new twist in "ISP-less" this morning.

Couldn't log on, matter of fact the modem wouldn't even squawk.
Decided to manually dial the main ISP modem bank number and found that it was instantly reverting to a dial tone after all the digits were entered.

Called my ISP and they said they'd already had another complaint of that problem,
but curiously only from someone in the same general area of town that I was in.
Based on this we concluded that it was probably a switching problem in SW Bell's equipment and the plan was to double-team them with complaints in hopes of a speedier resolution.

OK, so I contacted SW Bell who informed me that number bank wasn't theirs -
that it actually "belonged" to Brooks Fiber and they gave me their number. I called Brooks/Worldcom in Tulsa who acknowledged there was indeed a problem but that they thought it was a problem with SW Bell.

Anyhow somebody finally figured it out after half the day was gone.
