Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge concerns a captured Confederate spy who is about to be hung from a railroad bridge. There are virtually no words spoken, only the Union officer's command to release the plank upon which the spy is standing. The plank drops, but the rope breaks, and the spy plummets into the river below; he frees his hands and pulls the noose from around his neck; he swims to shore as the hanging party fires their rifles at him. He gains the shore, and runs down the road to his house, where he sees his wife. He runs to her with outstretched arms, and just as he reaches her his neck snaps back, because....
