Holly,

Like the RICO statutes, it is supposed to be ammunition for the good guys in the war on drugs, or so they told us after it was a done deal. Holly

Nobody likes drug dealers, but when we abandon constitutional rights even for the most despicable criminals, we put ourselves at risk also. Hitler goosestepped over the Jews' constitutional rights. Clinton (clearly unconstitutionally) retroactively taxed "the rich". Nobody yelled because both groups (the Jews and the rich) were hated minorities. Likewise the drug dealers. So nobody yells when they confiscate their boats and cars and houses without a trial, just for finding the stuff there. There is no outrage.

And I have heard, although it just may be paranoid ravings, that the new $50 and $100 bills are not to protect us against counterfeiters, but to make the bills electronically detectable in case you decide to (unpatriotically) move some of "your" cash overseas.

It's enough to make me want to join the ACLU, although they probably wouldn't have me.

Jack
