U.S.' WorldCom Gets Australian
Telecom Carrier License

AP-Dow Jones News Service
April 1, 1998

SYDNEY -- WorldCom Inc. (WCOM) of the U.S.
said Wednesday it has been granted a
telecommunications carrier license by the Australian
government.

In a statement, the company said it currently is
concentrating its efforts in Australia on the Sydney
business market. It said the license allows WorldCom to
provide its full range of voice, data and Internet services.

Suzanne Campbell, managing director of WorldCom's
Australian unit, said the license is a first step in a planned
roll-out of a 'substantial investment in
telecommunications infrastructure and services for
Australian consumers.' Details will be disclosed in the
next few weeks.

WorldCom is negotiating to develop a fiber-optic cable
link between Australia, New Zealand and the U.S., the
statement added.
