hi cm, i heard the first time about intershop in the german press. they did a story about the founder about half a year ago.
since then i followed the company and regularly visited their homepage. i also visited them on the cebit, where they have been on two fairs. one of them was their own the other was on the ibm-fair, where some business partners of them got the opportunity to show teir solutions.
there are three things that make me confident on the company:
1st the number and names of partners HP, IBM, SGI, Siemens Nixdorf, CyberCash, Sybase, Deutsche Telekom, Bull, EUNet, Brokat (another very hot german soon-to-ipo company in this business) and some more
2nd the number of customers and references. you are right there is a big competition and nearly everyone is talking about e-commerce and e-business but there are still very few who can deliver an out-of-the-box solution like intershop.
3rd the solution works, is quite cheap (around 25000 per shop-server(development suite is more expensive)) so it can be used by nearly every company
i don't know any financial data yet but the number of employees went from 4 in 1992 to about 200 in 1998 as far as i can remember.
