Zeev, I based my comment not on personal knowledge of Symbios or Adaptec. My experience is that when there has been a major organizational change--whether a company absorbed by another or a unit in an organization merged with another in the same organization--those most affected by the change (Symbios employees in this case) often react with fear and concern about their personal situations. Symbios has undergone several such changes in the past few years. Those changes probably have engendered a fair amount of cynicism among the staff.

Adaptec is buying Symbios in the hopes of improving business. In the process it eliminates a competitor. I suppose one could argue that would be better for both companies, their shareholders, and their employees. I think so. One good company merges with another good company in the same/related business. Some overlaps, but some major differences. For example, Symbios makes high-end storage systems; Adaptec doesn't. Adaptec gains a fab.

It would be very interesting to learn from a current or recent Symbios employee his/her view of the merger and prospects. But current employees would be constrained, I'm sure, from commenting here, at least without using a pseudonym.
