MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1998--CyberStar,
L.P., a leading provider of global broadband services (GBS), and
Adaptec, a leading provider of bandwidth management technologies,
announced today a strategic joint marketing alliance to develop and
promote distribution and customer support channels for CyberStar's
high-speed data communications service.
This relationship will enable CyberStar and Adaptec to offer the
industry's leading satellite-based broadband service into three major
areas: computer resellers, OEMs, and application developers. By
focusing joint efforts on these areas purchasers can be assured of
getting a service that is tailored to their specific needs with
superior customer service and support.
"This is another important milestone in an already successful
partnership," said Emil Regard, vice president of marketing and
business development for CyberStar. "Our goal is to make broadband
services easy to buy and install for our potential customers. By
working with Adaptec, CyberStar is able to employ a product and
service distribution model that is convenient for and familiar to our
target markets."
"This relationship is an exciting move toward delivering the
promise of real-time satellite data delivery for business and
consumer markets that, until now, primarily relied upon expensive
terrestrial lines of communication," said Lana Vaysburd, general
manager of Adaptec's Satellite Networking Group. "By working
together, CyberStar and Adaptec will combine their expertise in
satellite technology and PC bandwidth management respectively and
deliver a powerful and complete solution to important OEM, VAR,
distributor and developer channels. We are very pleased to have been
chosen by CyberStar to fulfill this role."
CyberStar, a Loral company, uses Ku-band satellites to deliver
broadband applications and multimedia content channels to businesses.
Because CyberStar uses open standards -- including IP, DVB, and MPEG
-- the service integrates seamlessly with an organization's existing
network infrastructure to deliver multiple forms of electronic
information to a variety of networked devices, including PCs, network
servers, interactive kiosks, set top boxes, and terminals.
Late last year CyberStar announced the use of Adaptec's PC
receiver adapter card (Satellite Express ABA-1040) to facilitate the
connection of a user's PC to receive CyberStar's service, including
data, audio, video and multimedia content. This gives users seamless
access to high-speed digital data streams via satellite.
CyberStar service capabilities include multicasting, high-speed
Internet access, business information services and video streaming
for a variety of applications including corporate training,
multimedia distribution, distributing software to field locations,
updating company databases, and kiosk updates. For applications such
as distributing software, companies will be able to send their
content to many locations, simultaneously, regardless of the file
size and type, whenever they want.
