All they are really doing is setting up a network with highly asymmetric send and receive capacities. Old and simple as it is, it is a very good idea.

Consider all the places in the world where there is digital satellite coverage but relatively poor cable infrastructure. Say the installed cable plant isn't really capable of handling a lot more than 56 Kbps (and possibly a good deal less) all the way to the end users. What is a cost effective way of getting these people access to all sorts of electronic goodies?

Where are such areas? Many places in the US qualify and so do many places in Europe. Fiber - or even good grade copper - to the home is a ways off. I think large parts of Asia would do well with this too.... Potentially, the market is very big.

I wonder if they are thinking of adding a SCSI controller that allows direct recording of incoming video/multimedia; wouldn't be that hard.

Cheers, Torben
