Great move. Ridge appears to be (or wanted to be) an integrator of mass storage devices (as RAID systems) rather than producer of the drives or other hardware needed. It apparently has developed software necessary for its products. And Adaptec was instrumental in Ridge's startup, which only began on 7 October, as an investor and also had a deal to supply SCSI and other technology. According to Ridge,

"one of our first moves was to forge strategic alliances with industry leaders such as Adaptec, Inc., a leading provider of high-performance I/O, connectivity, and network products. Ridge Technologies received initial investment funding from Silicon Venture Partners LLC and from Adaptec. In addition, Adaptec will provide Ridge with its SCSI and Fibre Channel technology through an OEM arrangement."

Symbios produces RAID systems, including large capacity drives (MetaStor). My guess is that Ridge CEO Graham will move his operations to the Symbios unit that produces those systems. It would become Adaptec's new Storage Solutions Division. Just a guess. But why not use your own drives to integrate?
