I recently completed a rather in depth study of Imatron and their history for a corporate strategy class at a top three business school. The interesting thing about Imatron is their ability to recognize their competence, which is R&D. Whenever they develop a technology so that it is marketable, it is spun off (look at INVN, a spin-off of Imatron, with Imatron still holding 6% of the stock). They recently have made some very questionable moves with these clinics they are opening. Something is inherently wrong with the process of creating your own customer. If they can't sell the machines competitively, then how can they expect to make a profit by being their own customer? The next 6-12 months in this stock call for extreme caution on behalf of the investor...
