I agree with you on all of this: science cannot disprove religion. My point was that there used to be some who thought that science and religious faith of any kind were incompatible. It seems to me that I meet fewer such militant atheists than I used to. Moreover, I suspect that the ones I know miss the good old days when (in their opinion) an analysis of the Ark's dimensions should be sufficient to 'remedy' someone's irrationality (i.e., faith). Such nostalgia is, I think, as depressing as Cohen's longing for the Berlin Wall, though of course not as jarringly expressed. |
