100 years from now, history is going to look at the past 5 years as a huge vacuum when Congress and the Executive Branch did nothing but waste millions of dollars and thousands of hours holding politically motivated hearings that had the sole purpose of trying to bring down someone or another. I recall reading an article that analyzed the first 6 months of the new Congress elected in 1996 and one of the most startling facts was the amount of time and money spent by the Senate Finance Committee in the Whitewater investigation as compared to the time and money spent on the substantive issues for which the Committee was created. I don't recall the exact figures, but it was something like 5 to 1 in favor of the Whitewater investigation.

All this funny business has paralyzed the Congress and we will unfortunately have to live with the consequences years down the road.

As always, this is only my opinion.
