Re: Fortune article on Ebbers.
Does it bother anyone else that Ebbers himself says that he isn't very tech savvy(!), that he barely got out of college, that he went directly from high school coach to mega-Telcom CEO, that he kind of stumbled into the internet thing, that he runs huge WorldCom out of outback Jackson, Mississippi in a funky little office building, and that he lives alone in a double-wide trailer? (Sounds a little bit too close to the Chris Farley/SNL character that "lives in a van, down by the river!")
Sometimes I get a feeling this guy is in way over his head, is way too interested in empire building, is too motivational and religious, and has taken this company about as far as it can go on his charm and luck.
I can just see the stories in a couple of years about how this charismatic overreacher took everyone on this wild, weird ride... (Same story could be written about Clinton, too, I suppose) |
