Jim -- As you know, I have the greatest respect and appreciation for your contributions, and for those of others. In the spirit of offering "lessons learned," I'd like to post one strategy I often use that is probably over-simplistic to experienced traders/investors but may be useful and not overly obvious to other newcomers, including the many, many lurkers on SI.

The idea is to set a limit order significantly lower than the current price for a given stock, or a series of limit orders at varying prices, as a way to take advantage of the market's natural volatility. While this can lead to missing nice runs for stocks (I missed out on BLSC's recent jump trying to get in a bit lower than it dropped before the run), it can also lead to really good buys; I got PMCS at 25 this way, and TAVA at 6 1/4.

Apologies to those for whom this is too simplistic, but as I talk to new investors I'm struck by how many of us don't know some of the basic tools available. And I leave it to TA and charting experts to explain how to identify appropriate price targets.
