Duncan, I have never said that Jane Fonda was my heroine or anything. I do think she was acting out of her convictions. You need to remember that she was not particularly emotionally healthy or well balanced. Having a cold and unemotional father like Henry, and a mother who killed herself because she was so unhappy, do not add up to a healthy environment for growing a sane and calmly accepting child.

It was very easy in the late sixties and early seventies for radical youth in America to get into really polarized positions. When I watched the movie "Nixon" I was struck again by how evil he seemed, and how horrific the war in Viet Nam was. It really polarized everyone. I was sort of obnoxious myself at anti-war demonstrations. I don't think you would have liked me very much. Were you a Young Republican then? I think I have become a lot more moderate, which is normal, and that is why I am asking. Have you ever had a political position which evolved over time?

I saw this in yesterday's paper, and really liked the idea behind it:

Grace Slick, who once said that "getting up and singing songs that you sang 30 years ago during what you thought was a revolution is kind of pathetic" turned down an invitation to accompany VH1's showing of Jefferson Airplane pictures this morning . . .
