>>Did the volunteer army come before or after the war was over?

Zlot the Historian: after. The volunteer army was one of the consequences of the "war", or "police action" in Vietnam.

HAHA Boy, you really stepped in it again. I hedged and you attacked anyway. Too bad. You are dead wrong.

Military conscription continued until 1973. At that time President Richard Nixon inaugurated the All-Volunteer Force (AVF), in part to help dissipate social conflict over the Vietnam War.

>>How odd that you can't remember when the draft was eliminated. I should think it was a question of some interest to you then.

It wasn't because it wasn't.

>>And, oh dear, I'm becoming quite confused about your age. You say the war would have had to last till 1983 for it to become a "problem" for you. One became eligible for the draft at 18. So that means you were born in 1965?

Even though it doesn't matter, add college and graduate degree time.

>>My, my, your views on the conduct of the "war" were precocious!

You never seem happier or more alive than when you try to "correct" me. When you actually do I fully expect you to explode.

That prospect alone is certainly very tempting. Maybe Boink! should vote on it?
