The latest info I have on maximum bandwidth and LAN diameter is that Fast Ethernet has a maximum bandwidth of 100 Mbps with a maximum transmission distance of 20 kilometers. FDDI has a maximum bandwidth of 100 Mbps with a maximum transmission distance of 100 kilometers. The main difference is that FDDI uses optical interconnects and hence can cover longer distances. It also means that it is more of a backbone network that is connecting LANs rather than nodes on a LAN. George D.
