My children have been indoctrinated since kindergarten against the misuse of alcohol, tobacco and all drugs. Each of my siblings in different states has the same experience. There is plenty of education. It is hard to abuse something which is not available. We need to close the borders to the poison that comes into this country from drug exporting countries. Our laws are not stupid, just stupidly enforced. Yes we need treatment programs. We also need to give people ONE shot and if they won't be separated from their drugs voluntarily, then we must do it forcibly (in prison with weekly testing). There is a difference between alcohol and other drugs. In addition to tradition, you can have a drink and not be drunk. I'm told you can't snort coke and not get high, can't smoke a joint and not get buzzed, etc. Drugs have always been illegal. They should remain so. Its great to say there is always a small portion of the population that will abuse drugs which remains consistent over time, until its your child that is in that portion. Anyone who sells that stuff to kids is selling death, disease and disappointment . I don't take kindly to anyone who endangers my child's life. Maybe we should start executing pushers I suspect the problem would be over. Extreme measure to be sure but we see drug use on the rise in spite of all the education out there. Time to take some extreme measures to bury this problem once and for all. Seriously, bottom line is we need to hold people accountable for the choices they make (very relevant to this thread). I'm all for giving people a second chance and a hand up but if its wasted or refused, its time to protect the rest of us from the economic and societal costs of bad choices. JLA
