<<<<Is there any kind of timetable, or is this an open-ended situation?>>>>

My understanding is that it is basically open ended in both locations.
Compeditors will make hay to delay and question, all the while trying to devine some strategy that will close the gap. Unions, baby bells and Euro equivelents, Jessie Jackson, Ralph Nader will weigh in. Everyone's congressional delegations will hold out for a pound of flesh.

Janet Reno's boys may be on the loose too, having received no real satisfaction from trying to join with certain congressional leaders to torpedo Microsoft. I think they are getting panicky because global M&As are starting to get away from them.

Mci and Wcom will need to marshal their own supporters. IMO, this is going to take a good while.
