Check Point (NASDAQ:CHKPF) denies Microsoft

Reuters, Thursday, April 23, 1998 at 17:34

Deborah Triant, president and chief executive of Check
Point's U.S. subsidiary, told Reuters the Israeli company had a
longstanding relationship with Microsoft as a partner in
Microsoft's proxy server group. A proxy server mediates between
an organization's communications network and the Internet.
"We don't view them as direct competitors and ... we also
view that the comments were taken out of context," she said.
"We have a very cooperative and friendly relationship with
the Microsoft proxy group and Microsoft in general."
Triant said Check Point, a leader in security software, was
mentioned in Microsoft corporate announcements and appeared on
the company's Internet Web site.
The report was "absolutely a non-event," she said, speaking
by telephone from the U.S. headquarters in Redwood City, Calif.
Check Point closed down 7-3/4 at 33-1/4 Thursday in very
heavy trade. The company also reported first-quarter earnings
after markets closed Wednesday of $0.45 a share against $0.20
for the year-ago period.
