Janice: Two points. First, my post was meant to say that just because a parent may be lousy at expressing their feelings does not mean that parent doesn't love and care for their children. The strong silent type (like my father) may never be able to vent those feelings until near the very end as with Mr. Fonda. They may just not be capable of expressing those emotions.

Second, my wife and I are currently struggling with the boarding school issue. My wife is a devoted mother to our children. She volunteers in the schools, chaperones school events, roots at ALL our childrens' meets and games, does the PTA, goes to all the School Board meetings, etc. etc. etc. I could go on and on. Nevertheless, we have become concerned recently with the adequacy of a public school education in our Town. We want our kids to at least have the opportunity to get into top notch colleges and we are not sure our local school will prepare them. Although we both hate the idea, we may send the children to a "boarding school" because we feel in the long run it may be in their best interest. There are several excellent college prep high schools in our area and our oldest is ready next year. My point is even caring parents may send their children to a boarding school. All the circumstances surrounding the decision need to be taken into account. Do you profess to know with certainty that it was convenience and not concern that prompted the decision of the Reagan's? I doubt it. For one who seems very reluctant to draw the obvious inferences which arise from the Lewinski and the other Clinton scandals, your willingness to conclude the Reagan's sent the children to boarding school for convenience seems downright reckless.
