<<a crash-proof operating system>>

There are Unix systems that have been running for very long time spans without going down. Back in the hairy old days, you used to see the ''panic: synching disks" message on Unix machines from time to time. But now it is rare. The predominant cause of Unix crashes is power. The predominant cause of Windows 95/NT crashes is the system itself.

One major problem with Windows 95/NT is that there is so much new code in there. Unix has a much more evolved - and thus stable - code base. And it shows.

Sadly, Unix does not have the nice user interface and applications NeXT had the user interface, but the applications never showed up. If Linux got the full NeXT interface and support from a lot of developers, then it could end up being a serious threat to Microsoft.

But that can't happen. Then again, Linux couldn't happen and no one would ever use it for serious applications......

Cheers, Torben
