Plenty of jobs are already being exported to third world countries, Duncan. Did you read the whole article? I thought it was interesting, and certainly a compassionate state has some moral obligation to ensure that people with fulltime jobs can eat AND pay rent.

There is a small impact on employment, but it is unclear when it kicks in. Definitely not at a reasonable minimum wage.

Cities like San Francisco are now legislating city laws that anyone contracting with the City must pay its workers at least $8.00 an hour. Cities are much more active on this than the federal government. Did you notice in the article that the minimum wage, adjusted for inflation, is much lower than it was in the, um, seventies as I recall?
