Network Associates Dominates International Security Awards Ceremony With Honors in Four Categories, Including Best Overall Security Product
SECURE Computing Magazine Honors Network Associates in Security Industry's Most Prestigious Awards Ceremony
Phil Zimmerman Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award
SANTA CLARA, Calif., April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Network Associates, Inc. (Nasdaq: NETA - news), formerly McAfee, today announced that SECURE Computing Magazine, the leading international computer security publication, presented Network Associates with four honors in their 1998 awards ceremony held last night in London.

VirusScan was the evening's top winner, taking home the Principal Award for ''Best Security Software'' for the second year running. VirusScan was also selected over competing products from Symantec (Nasdaq: SYMC - news) and Dr. Solomon (Nasdaq: SOLLY - news) for top honors as ''Best Anti-Virus'' product. In the ''Best Encryption Control'' category, Network Associates' Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) received the Highly Commended award. Phillip Zimmerman, a Network Associates Fellow and the original founder of PGP, was also honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in the field of cryptology.

''It is extremely gratifying to have our products honored by so many leading security experts and users from around the world,'' said Peter Watkins, general manager of the Net Tools Secure Division at Network Associates. ''Our commitment to continued excellence and innovation in the area of network security has never been stronger.''

The awards were announced just hours after Network Associates completed the acquisition of leading firewall vendor Trusted Information Systems, rounding out its comprehensive Net Tools Secure product suite. Net Tools Secure combines best-in-class firewall, encryption, authentication, intrusion detection and anti-virus protection in an end-to-end, centrally managed suite of enterprise security products. For the first time ever, corporate customers have the option of selecting a comprehensive suite of market-leading security solutions from a single worldwide vendor, instead of trying to integrate a series of expensive point products from standalone vendors such as Checkpoint (Nasdaq: CHKPF - news), Security Dynamics/RSA (Nasdaq: SDTI - news), Entrust or Symantec.

With headquarters in Santa Clara, California, Network Associates, Inc., formed by the merger of McAfee Associates and Network General, is a leading supplier of enterprise network security and management solutions. Network Associates' Net Tools Secure and Net Tools Manager offer best-of-breed, suite- based network security and management solutions. Net Tools Secure and Net Tools Manager suites combine to create Net Tools which centralizes these point solutions within an easy-to-use, integrated systems management environment.
